Noida, Uttar Pradesh: Noida International Airport (NIA) has officially entered the country’s aviation network with the launch of its commercial passenger operations. The opening of the airport is expected to improve air connectivity for the National Capital Region (NCR) and western Uttar Pradesh while supporting the region’s growing travel demand.

The airport welcomed its first passengers as IndiGo commenced operations from the newly developed facility. The inaugural arrival came from Lucknow, followed by the first scheduled departure to Bengaluru, marking the beginning of regular commercial services at the airport.

Before opening to the public, Noida International Airport successfully completed a series of Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) exercises. These large-scale trials were conducted to test airport infrastructure, passenger handling systems, operational processes and staff preparedness to ensure smooth and safe flight operations.

At present, the airport will primarily handle domestic flights, while international services are expected to be introduced in the coming months as operations expand.

Commenting on the launch, Christoph Schnellmann, Vice Chairman of Noida International Airport, said the airport has been developed with a focus on efficiency, passenger convenience and high service standards. He noted that the beginning of flight operations represents an important step toward establishing a modern aviation hub for the region.

The airport offers several technology-driven facilities designed to enhance the travel experience. Passengers can use DigiYatra-enabled services for faster and paperless entry, along with self-service check-in counters and automated baggage drop systems. The terminal also features retail outlets and food and beverage options for travelers.

The first phase of Noida International Airport has been designed to accommodate up to 12 million passengers annually. The project has been developed with an emphasis on operational efficiency, digital innovation, customer-centric services and sustainable infrastructure.

With commercial services now underway, Noida International Airport is expected to play a significant role in easing passenger traffic pressure on existing airports in the NCR while creating new opportunities for regional economic growth and connectivity.
