New Delhi – Train Control will now be able to more closely monitor the location and speed of RTIS enabled locomotives and trains without any human intervention. The Real Time Train Information System (RTIS) developed in collaboration with ISRO is being installed in the locomotives for automatic tracking of train movement timings at stations including arrival and departure or rehearsal. RTIS provides mid-section updates at 30 second intervals. Train Control can now more closely monitor the location and speed of an RTIS enabled train without any human intervention.

RTIS equipment for 2700 locomotives has been installed in 21 Electric Loco Sheds. In the second phase, 6000 more locomotives will be inducted in 50 loco sheds. Presently, about 6500 locomotives are being directly fed into the Control Office application. It has enabled automatic charting of trains and information flow of latest information to passengers through COA and NTES integration.
