Around 450 workers from India have lost their jobs in Saudi Arabia and are begging on the streets there. Mostly workers are from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Haryana, Punjab and Maharashtra.
Their work permit was expired. A related video is currently going viral on social media. The victims alleged that begging is considered a crime and was detained by Saudi authorities and taken to the Shumishi detention center in Jeddah.
The detainees Indians included 39 from UP, 10 from Bihar, five from Telangana and four from Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka and one each from AP. Awareness that they are in a state of despair. They have not committed any crime. They have lost their jobs. We have not asked for anything. Now we are disturbed in detention centers, ”said an Indian.
