Non-stop flight service between Amritsar and Gatwick will be operated by Air India thrice a week. Union Civil Aviation and Steel Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in his inaugural address said that this new international flight service will act as a catalyst for the development of this sector. It is also an emotive topic as there are lakhs of people from Punjab living in the UK and this new flight service will act as a link between families living in two different countries. India has also signed Open Skies Offer with Canada, in which airline operators can operate unlimited flight services between Indian cities and their Canadian counterparts. Scindia said that he hoped that the agreement would benefit the state of Punjab and its people.
