Changes to CRS Points

Under the new system, eligible candidates may receive additional CRS points for qualifying Canadian work experience in certain high-wage occupations or for a qualifying job offer.

Depending on the applicable wage threshold, an eligible job offer may provide 50, 70 or 100 additional CRS points. Candidates with at least 12 months of qualifying Canadian work experience in an eligible high-wage occupation may also receive additional points.

Candidates cannot claim points for both a qualifying job offer and qualifying Canadian work experience under this new factor. The final score will depend on the applicable eligibility rules.

Changes to LMIA Requirements

From November 3, a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) will no longer be required for qualifying job offers to receive the relevant CRS points, subject to IRCC conditions. An LMIA will not provide additional CRS points or priority on its own.

The requirements for receiving CRS points may differ from the requirements for qualifying under specific immigration programs.

What Indian Applicants Should Know

Indian applicants who already have an Express Entry profile should review their information before the changes take effect, particularly if they have Canadian work experience or a job offer.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) says existing profiles will be reassessed under the new rules. This process may take up to two weeks, during which invitation rounds will pause.

Applicants should check their eligibility and follow the instructions on the official government website before updating their profiles.

The changes do not guarantee an invitation to apply for permanent residence.
