Etawah – Banyan tree, which is said to be three hundred years old, had fallen due to torrential rains sometime back on September 22. People call this banyan tree as ‘Gandhi Vat Vriksha’. The Banyan Tree During the independence movement, it was an important meeting place for Gandhians. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a new banyan plant will be planted at this place.
In India, the banyan tree represents eternal life. Because its branches are always spreading. The huge structure of Banyan and its deep roots symbolize the unity of the country. In India, Banyan is also called Kalpavriksha, which means ‘Wish fulfilling tree’. It was declared the national tree of India in 1988. Due to its longevity, this tree is considered immortal in India. The banyan tree is still the focal point of village life and the meeting of the village council is held under the shade of this tree.
