United Nations – In a historic move, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has released his New Year message in Hindi for the first time, marking a significant step toward inclusivity in global communication.

In his message, Guterres highlighted the challenges the world faces, including conflict, inequality, and climate change. He called upon world leaders to prioritize development, education, and healthcare, and to reduce spending on weapons and conflicts.

The Secretary-General emphasized, “As we step into the new year, the world stands at a crossroads. Challenges such as division, violence, and climate crises continue to grow, but our focus must remain on peace, cooperation, and human well-being.”

This year, his message has been made available in multiple languages, including Hindi and Urdu, alongside the six official UN languages. For the first time, a Hindi video version with subtitles has also been released to reach a broader audience.

Guterres called for collective action and increased investment in sustainable development, stressing that only through cooperation and prioritizing progress over conflict can 2026 become a year of hope and growth.

This initiative also reflects the UN’s ongoing efforts to promote Hindi as a global language, ensuring that messages reach diverse communities and foster better international understanding.
