There was a time when women were dependent on their husbands. But about 36 women of Mahulia Panchayat under Chadbali block of Bhadrak district have now earned a new identity by their hard work, determination and will to set an example by going ahead of others. These women have got a new identity by stretching the clothes. These women have now become the most sought after tailors in their field. People of all age use to come to this tailoring unit to get any type of clothes stitched. It has become a source of livelihood for all the women of the area and has given them a purpose in life.
Monica Sutar, president of the group, said that keeping aside the money we earn every month, this work has given us a sense of self-satisfaction. Earlier we used to spend time only in gossips and chatting. Earlier we had to depend on our husbands for money.
People from Cuttack, Bhadrak, Chandbali and other places are getting it done here. Now they also get regular orders from wedding parties and other people who help them to make a living.
