The Airports Authority of India is undertaking restoration and expansion work at the Shimla airport. A budgetary provision of Rs.124.22 crores has been made for restoration, extension of apron to accommodate VIP aircraft along with schedule aircraft operation for ATR-42 at the airport. Measures have been taken such as reconstruction of slide areas and stabilization of slopes, Toe Walls, provision of Coir Mat erosion control blankets, Turt Mats, improvement of drainage system etc. to check soil erosion.This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation Shri Jayant Sinha in written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
