Noida, Uttar Pradesh — Noida International Airport has officially entered India’s aviation network with the start of commercial passenger operations. The launch marks a significant milestone for air connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR) and western Uttar Pradesh, supporting growing travel demand in one of India’s fastest-expanding urban corridors.

The airport welcomed its first commercial passengers as IndiGo began operations from the newly developed facility. The inaugural arrival was recorded from Lucknow, followed by the first scheduled departure to Bengaluru, signaling the beginning of regular passenger services.
Before opening to the public, the airport successfully completed a comprehensive series of Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) exercises. These large-scale trials tested critical systems such as passenger flow management, baggage handling, terminal operations, emergency response preparedness, and staff coordination. The objective was to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient operations from day one.
At present, the airport will primarily serve domestic routes. International flight operations are expected to be introduced in the coming phases as infrastructure and airline connectivity continue to expand.
Commenting on the launch, Christoph Schnellmann, Vice Chairman of Noida International Airport, said the facility has been developed with a strong focus on operational efficiency, passenger convenience, and high service standards. He added that the commencement of operations marks an important step toward building a modern aviation hub for the region.
The airport incorporates several technology-driven systems designed to enhance the passenger experience. These include DigiYatra-enabled paperless entry, self-service check-in counters, and automated baggage drop facilities. The terminal also features retail outlets and food and beverage services to improve overall traveler comfort.
The first phase of Noida International Airport has been designed to handle up to 12 million passengers annually. The infrastructure emphasizes efficiency, digital innovation, passenger-centric services, and sustainable development practices.
With commercial operations now underway, the airport is expected to reduce pressure on existing airports in the NCR while significantly improving regional and national air connectivity. It is also anticipated to support economic growth, boost tourism, and create new employment opportunities across multiple sectors.
