Nowadays, photos have found a place in mobile phones. But this cameraman from Jaipur, Tikam Chand, still takes pictures in a vintage way with his 200-year-old camera, which dates back to World War I. The German-made Carl Zeiss camera used by Tikam Chand is a heritage asset. It continues to be used by three generations of his family. Tikam Chand’s grandfather, known as the Pahari Master, was a royal photographer for the Maharaja of Jaipur in the 19th century. When the princely state was dissolved, the responsibility of preserving the camera was given to the Pahari Master. Since then, the camera has been handled by 3 generations of Tikam Chand’s family and is still kept in working condition.
Tikam Chand and his brother took this camera in their hands in 1977. Since then, he has been taking care of this camera and does not keep it on the shelf, but takes it to the streets of Hawa Mahal in Jaipur and takes hundreds of pictures every day.
