India has resumed issuing tourist e-visas to Chinese citizens after a five-year suspension. The resumption of e-visas and the expected resumption of direct flights soon is seen as a positive step towards stabilising diplomatic relations between the two countries. This visa was suspended by India in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic and the ongoing border tensions between the two countries.

The resumption of e-visas was announced by the Indian Embassy in China on July 24, 2025. The reopening of this visa will greatly benefit the tourism industry. This is good news for heritage hotels, operators, etc. This announcement signals the revival of cultural ties and regional tourism.
