New Delhi: OCI cardholders living across the world are seeking a simpler and more user-friendly process for updating their passport details after receiving a renewed passport.
Under the current rules, OCI cardholders are required to update their passport details within the prescribed period. A US$25 fee applies when the update is submitted after three months.
The main concern is the complexity of the existing online process, which can be confusing for many OCI cardholders.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) should consider introducing one simple online method:
Enter the renewed passport details and upload the renewed passport in PDF format.
Once submitted and approved, the updated information should be clearly reflected in the OCI record, with an acknowledgement available for the cardholder.
A simple, single-step process would make compliance easier for millions of OCI cardholders worldwide and help prevent delays and unnecessary fees.
If updating passport details is mandatory, the process should be simple, clear and hassle-free.
