Bundi, originally known as ‘Hadoti’, is a remarkable place with a rich history and a plethora of ancient monuments. Stone age artifacts dating back 5,000 to 2,000 years have been found here. Apart from these, many awe-inspiring temples are famous for their intricate sculptures and murals.
Bundi is famous for its miniature painting, a school of Rajasthani art that emerged in the 17th century and flourished until the late 1800s. The princely state of Bundi and the adjacent princely state of Kota practiced this kind of miniature painting. Lush greenery, brilliant night skies, water depicted in a unique way as the lights swirl against the dark background and energetic movements are all the hallmarks of the Bundi school of painting. Despite the decay and disrepair around them, stunning murals adorn the walls of the Bundi Palace and Chitrashala, which houses a collection of these works. Looking at these delicate murals makes one feel transported back to medieval times. (incredibleindia.gov )
