The two-day BRICS Science Academies Forum 2026 concluded successfully at IIT Hyderabad, with scientists and stakeholders from 8 member States of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and 5 invited partner countries coming together to focus on application of AI in sustainable development and enhanced collaboration in Global South.

Hosted by Indian National Science Academy (INSA), the forum aimed at creating human-centric approaches to develop inclusive, sustainable and cooperative AI ecosystem. The forum has narrowed down to five priority areas for collaboration for application of AI in helping reach Global Goals and facilitate inclusive collaboration:HealthcareClimate Change, including Climate Modelling and mitigationAgriculture and food security.
Advanced manufacturingDisaster management, including Early warning systems, Prediction & Prevention measures.
Participants from participating countries present the overview of their nation approaches to AI, calling for the establishment of responsible, scalable and replicable AI system for the benefit of developing countries and emphasis to avoid the Digital Divide by implementing capacity building program. Final agreement came in form of consensus Joint Statement on Cooperative Research to be signed officially at upcoming 4th BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Ministerial Meeting scheduled in August 2026. The senior officers underscored the importance of science, research, Innovation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for making progress towards various aspects of SDGs and human centric sustainable development.
