New Delhi: Indian passport holders can currently access e-Visa facilities in 66 countries, according to the latest visa information published by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The MEA’s country-wise list covers destinations across Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and other regions. The information on the ministry’s website is based on public and external sources and was updated as of February 2, 2026.

The facility can make the visa application process easier for Indian travellers, but the rules are not the same everywhere. Some countries have additional eligibility conditions, while others specify particular purposes of travel or documentation requirements.

Conditions differ for Indian travellers

The availability of an e-Visa does not mean that all Indian travellers automatically qualify under the same rules. Each country decides its own visa requirements, including the permitted period of stay, purpose of travel, supporting documents and other conditions.

For instance, the MEA says Indian applicants for an Armenia e-Visa must meet specific requirements, including travel medical insurance and, under one eligibility route, a valid visa or residence permit from specified countries. Applicants who do not qualify under that route may need additional documents such as a return-ticket reservation, invitation and proof of financial means.

Türkiye also has a specific condition for Indian ordinary passport holders. According to the MEA, applicants must have a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, the United States, the United Kingdom or Ireland. The Turkish e-Visa has a validity of 180 days, while the stay cannot exceed 30 days.

Russia’s unified e-Visa permits Indian citizens a single entry with a stay of up to 16 days, including the days of arrival and departure. The facility can be used for purposes including tourism, private or business visits and certain events.

Kenya now uses an Electronic Travel Authorisation

Kenya is also included in the MEA’s electronic travel facility list, but the system is no longer called an e-Visa.

The MEA notes that Kenya introduced an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) from January 5, 2024, replacing its e-Visa system. The authorisation has to be applied for and paid for before travel.

Sri Lanka and other destinations have separate rules

Sri Lanka’s electronic visa facility also comes with specific conditions. The MEA says the tourist facility provides double entry for 30 days, subject to conditions including a valid return ticket. Business travellers have a separate provision under the same listing.

Hong Kong has a separate electronic process for Indian nationals. The MEA lists a Pre-Arrival Registration requirement, after which eligible travellers can receive a six-month facility allowing multiple visits, with each visit limited to 14 days.

The rules can change, and the conditions mentioned by the MEA are not necessarily identical to those of other destinations on the list.

Travellers advised to check latest visa rules

Indian travellers planning an overseas trip should check the latest requirements before booking flights or making non-refundable travel arrangements.

The MEA has advised Indian nationals to cross-check visa information with the concerned foreign embassy or consulate because immigration and visa rules can change. The ministry also states that it is not responsible for the accuracy of information sourced from public and external sources.

For Indian passport holders, the availability of e-Visa facilities in 66 destinations provides more options for completing visa formalities online. However, travellers still need to meet the individual entry and visa requirements of the country they intend to visit.
