To make India’s digital payment landscape more efficient, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced a major upgrade in UPI from August 1, 2025. This upgrade will further strengthen UPI’s position as a real-time payment infrastructure. The UPI platform currently serves 491 million individuals and 65 million merchants.
NPCI has announced UPI upgrade rules ranging from balance check limits to revised autopay timings that will help reduce system load. These amendments are designed to increase UPI’s efficiency and improve fraud protection without impacting users.
Now more than 640 million transactions are done daily through UPI. It has left behind global giants like Visa. UPI has achieved this success in just nine years.
