National Identity cards would be issued to all citizens by 2010-2011 PDF Print E-mail

ImageMulti-purpose national identity cards would be issued to all citizens by 2010-2011, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said. In the first phase this year, 1.2 crore people in about 3,331 coastal villages and cities would receive the cards, he told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Chennai.
 
The card will be given to 110 crore people by 2010-2011.

Government has set up a Unique Identification Authority of India to implement the project aimed at obviating the need for multiple proofs of identity for citizens while availing any government service or for personal needs like opening bank accounts

India- Now a popular destination for Foreign Film Shoots PDF Print E-mail

ImageMore than 90 foreign film productions have been cleared for shooting in different locations in India over the last three years. Permission was granted to 22 foreign film productions in 2006, 27 each in 2007 and 2008 and 17 already in 2009. Of these, 33 productions are of UK based organizations, 17 of US origin. The other productions relate to France, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Russia, Georgia, Italy, Israel, Bangladesh and Pakistan among others.

Among recent productions are proposals from M/s Mashorba Films Ltd; UK titled "Indian Summer", "Eat Pray Love" from  Waveland Pictures Ltd; London, UK featuring Julia Roberts.

G-20 Summit-India will oppose protectionism PDF Print E-mail

ImageNew Delhi  will oppose protectionism of all forms in the G 20 summit beginning in Pittsburgh USA next week. The third G 20 summit will coordinate the views of developed and emerging market economies on trade, investment and growth and also look to the strengthening of the regulatory frame work of financial institutions.

Briefing media on the forth coming visit of the Prime Minister to the G 20 summit, the Foreign Secretary Mrs. Nirupama Rao said, India will advocate reforms of the international financial institutions like World Bank and IMF to keep pace with the ground realities

Life Insurance Corporation to recruit over 2-lakh agents PDF Print E-mail

ImageLIC is planning to recruit more than 2-lakh agents by the end of this financial year, a top company official said.    "We plan to recruit 2-lakh agents-plus in this financial year. So far, we have recruited close to 80,000 agents in this fiscal," Life Insurance Corporation of India's Chairman, T S Vijayan said.     Presently, the company has 13.5-lakh agents, he said.    LIC is also targeting a growth of 19 per cent in fresh premium collection in FY 10."We are expecting a growth of 19 per cent in our fresh premium collection by the end of this year

Jet Airways airfares slashed by half to attract customers PDF Print E-mail

Jet Airways is now seeking to win back customers with airfares slashed by half.

 An airline spokesperson confirmed this offer , hours after the airline started limping back to normalcy after the crippling five-day agitation of its pilots was called off around midnight.

"The discount would be applicable on the total fare, which includes basic fare and fuel surcharge. It would be valid for all bookings between Monday till Friday in the economy class on all domestic sectors," the airline said.
