Sonia confident about stability of Govt.

UPA President express confidence over the stability of the UPA government but wished former allies like SP and RJD were with it on the women's reservation bill.

"I think so. One can never tell. I am not not an astrologer. I wish our former partners remained with us," Sonia told in New Delhi.

She was asked if she was confident about the stability of the government in the wake of threats by SP and RJD of withdrawal of their support to the UPA government

Seven MPs were suspended on Tuesday for remaining part of the budget session for their unruly behaviour in the House on Monday over the Women's Reservation Bill. The suspended members are Subhash Yadav (RJD), Sabir Ali (LJP), Veerpal Singh Yadav, Nand Kishore Yadav, Amir Alam Khan and Kamal Akhtar (all SP) and Ejaz Ali (Unattached). The motion for their suspension was moved by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Prithviraj Chavan and was passed by a voice vote.

BJP for generational change at the top

BJP starts conclave of its leaders from all over the country on the road ahead for the party that has suffered two consecutive defeats in the Lok Sabha elections and has seen a generational change at the top. The National Executive meeting and the National Council on Feb 18 and 19, esssentially to formally ratify the election of Nitin Gadkari as the party President, are expected to provide an opportunity to the leaders to introspect and think of the strategy ahead to make the organisation effective and broaden the NDA.

Indian PM mr Singh said that the economy needs to grow at 9-10 pc rate to move forward and the problem of unemployment calls for industialisation of the country. "The only way forward for this country is to register a growth rate of 9-10 per cent," he said while giving away Prime Minister's trophy to the steel plants in New Delhi
